The First Two Months At Gameumentary

I can’t believe it’s already March. This year needs to slow down a bit if you ask me. More importantly though, Gameumentary is already three months old. I wanted to take a look back at what we’ve accomplished in the first two months and give you an idea of where the site is headed this year.

I’ll let you know right away that running Gameumentary is quite a bit more difficult than I had imagined. There’s a wealth of stories to cover within the games industry, but with our limited staff and time, it’s quite difficult to cover everything we want to cover.

Coming up with new feature ideas every week is also a challenge within itself. It’s always fun to go and talk to new studios to learn about their team and their upcoming games, but we also want to focus on smaller stories within the industry as well.

Thus far, I think we’ve done a good job of mixing up our stories and providing you information on a wide range of subjects. We will continue to diversify our content as the year goes on and will work on building a bit more of a structure for how we release content. Preferably, I’d like to have a running schedule of content each month that you can view to see what’s upcoming. We’d obviously throw some surprises in there too.

We still have our secret project that we’re working on as well. I can’t say anything specific about it yet and won’t be able to for probably another month or so. I’m super excited and nervous about it though, I will say that.

As far as growth goes…it’s slow, but we are growing. It was certainly to be expected that our traffic would be slow to grow. I’m actually quite impressed though with the amount of support our pieces have been getting on Reddit, Facebook and Twitter. I think it’s going to take a bit for people to really realize that we’re not a traditional gaming news outlet and that our features are the norm, not the outlier.

We’ll get there, I’m sure. I think it’s going to take around a year and some really big hitting pieces from us to get recognized on that front, but I think we’re on our way. I’m hoping to get our traffic up to an average of 30,000 visits a month by May. In January we reached 7,000 readers and this month we reached 14,000 readers.

These numbers are actually quite a bit higher than I had expected due to our focus on feature content. When working on OnlySP, news and rumors were consistently the major drivers of traffic on the site and we had relatively similar numbers starting out on the site in the same time-frame.

I think Gameumentary is on the right track thus far. Our content has been of high quality, our traffic counts are rising and most importantly, people seem to be enjoying our content. We will be hopefully adding some new faces to the site soon to increase our content output and deliver you more features and content in the next few weeks and months.

Thank you for supporting our content and vision for the site thus far. It has been a big shift for us moving from a traditional outlet like OnlySP where we had something to cover each and every day to a site that posts maybe three or four things a week.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please voice them in the comments section.

Glad to hear the numbers are rising! I think the site is off to a great start.
