Week in Review & Giveaway – June 25, 2017

Well, it has been quite a long while since I last did one of these, hasn’t it?

We’ve been incredibly busy here at Gameumentary, and I have to say…I haven’t been this confident about our future in a long time. We set out at the beginning of this month to build up a backlog of content for you to read in July, and we’re well on our way to accomplishing our goal of 15+ features for you to read next month.

That’s a feature almost every other day. Tell me another website that can pull that off.

We’ve got a wide variety of features for you to read in July, all of them quite interesting. And now that we’ve got this big backlog of content to work with, we can continue working on new features through out the month while we post completed ones which is really going to help out with making sure we have new content readily available on a regular basis. That has been a goal of mine since starting this site, and we’ve finally been able to pull it off.

So, hats off to the team here at Gameumentary, you guys are doing incredible work.

We’ve got even more things in the pipeline that I can’t talk about just yet, but in a few weeks time you’ll be hearing more about our next doc(s) and other important things we’ve been planning this month. In addition, we’ve been knuckling down on our Youtube channel and have been having a blast recording podcasts these past couple weeks. In fact, we’ve enjoyed it so much we’ve decided to launch two new shows in addition to the Official Podcast.

Starting in July, we’ll be producing the Official Podcast, Girlumentary, and a new segment we’re extra excited about, Duo Reviews. We’ll have more details on those shows to share with you at the start of next month, but for now, enjoy the logos that I worked extra hard on today. We’ve been working hard to clean up our branding image ahead of future announcements, and I think after today we found our style.

It’s been a long six months getting to this point, but I think in July we’re really going to show you what we’re made of. Be sure to check back on the 1st of July, we’ll have something for you then.

It’s been a very busy summer for me. I haven’t had a whole lot of time for gaming, but I did manage to find time to play through RiME (I still need to write a review on that one, whoops) and very much enjoyed it. It’s a very relaxing experience to play through, had a touching story and the soundtrack is one of my favorites of the year. Give it a playthrough if you haven’t yet, it’s an adventure worth taking.

The next game I plan on getting my hands-on is The Farm 51’s, Get Even. It’s a much different game from what we had originally reported on at OnlySP, but from the reviews I have read, the game seems to be pretty good. Originally it was supposed to involve Dark Souls-like elements with human players controlling the enemies you’d face through out the campaign.

We’ll have to talk with The Farm 51 to see what happened and why it was cut from the game. Regardless, I’m always up for a good narrative and so far reviews for Get Even are indicating it’s the strongest part of the game.

Aside from RiME, I’m still playing Rainbow Six Siege every now and again, but most of my time has been spent working on Gameumentary related things. Oh, and I’m doing freelance games PR for Game if You Are now as well, so I’ve been learning a lot about the public relations side of things in the games industry. Once I graduate in December I have plans to make my way out to Seattle to become more directly involved with the industry that has literally shaped my adult life.

Let us know what you’ve been up to for the past couple months in the comments.

Yup, we’re doing these again! The SOS Alpha Playtest has begun this weekend and we’ve got a few extra codes to throw your way so you can take part. Here’s a trailer for the game if you’ve never heard of it. Just follow the instructions on the RaffleCopter widget to enter the giveaway!

  • My week in review- Feature Writer

Hey everyone! Like Nick I am super excited for what we will all be sharing with you next month and that’s part of what I have worked on this month. I have a few features in the works and July looks to be busy busy for Gameumentary on a written and podcast level (where I am involved as well).

Lately I have been playing Overwatch a good bit after their Anniversary event and then the added maps and 6v6 low gravity. But I have also been going back to some old games, playing through some older games as well- Mario Sunshine and Pikmin in particular.

On a personal level I am first and foremost a law student about to enter my 3L year in the fall and am a law clerk this summer. I am a little out of the norm for the gaming journalism industry as I am in a completely different field BUT I have loved being able to do this work as well. I will be graduating in the spring and prepping for the Bar all next summer so I’m enjoying allllll I can of this summer.

That’s a little about what I have been up to lately.

  • Week in review – Features

Hi folks! Like Nick said, there’s a lot of feature content on the way, some of it from yours truly. I’m really excited to share those interviews with you, I had a lot of very fun talks with some really talented and passionate developers.

I’ve been pretty regular in Destiny these past couple weeks, but I took a break this week to revisit Hyper Light Drifter (which was my GOTY for 2016) as well as return to Horizon: Zero Dawn. I also picked up the two Bionicle Gamecube games from Amazon, so I’m excited to play those and determine that they probably haven’t aged too well.

Looking forward to seeing Baby Driver this weekend, and finishing up Horizon sometime next week if my schedule lets me.

  • Great to see these back!

I’ve been spending the last few weeks replaying older titles mostly, as well as prepping for moving states up to college in the fall. However, I did get a chance to play Get Even, and I have to say it really was a wonderful experience. If I had to compare it to one specific game, it would be Frictional Games’ SOMA, in terms of structure and layout, even though it’s not horror and more thriller oriented. Hopefully, you can get an interview with The Farm 51 about it’s development because I’d love to hear the changes it went through.

Lately, I’ve been playing The Evil Within, which I’ve been enjoying so far. I’ve also been meaning to write up another guest article to submit here, about a rather obscure indie game, but life got in the way and I sort of forgot about it. I should really get back to that.

Anyway, good luck with everything coming down the pike in July! Looking forward to it!

    • Nice to see you back as well!

Your Crysis article did very well on the site, so would be happy to see another guest post from you! We’ll also get it out much faster this time, took a while on that last one haha.

      • Glad to see a few people read it! Wasn’t sure what the traction would look like. I’ll try to get this next one done sometime this week. I’ve scrapped the format and rewrote it several times now. One of those games I want to talk about but not sure what to say.
